We are so excited to be part of the Agents of the Wild Blog Tour to celebrate the release of the 3rd book in the series, Agents of the Wild, Operation Sandwhiskers by Jennifer Bell featuring wonderful illustrations by Alice Lickens. We love the Agents of the Wild books in our house. Lily in particular is a keen environmentalist, she loves reading books with conservation themes that explain the great importance of looking after our planet.

Agnes and Attie – AGENTS OF THE WILD – are off to the Sahara Desert on a mission to rescue rare baby animals from illegal wildlife traders.

When a lesser flamingo crashes into Agnes’s window-box with an urgent message for SPEARS, Agnes is ready for the call. Three rock hyrax pups have been kidnapped from their burrow in Egypt, and other baby animals are missing across Africa. Soon Agnes and Attie find themselves trapped in an ancient Egyptian tomb at the mercy of animal poachers – can they save the animals and themselves? SPECIES IN DANGER? GIRL AND SHREW TO THE RESCUE!

Review

8 year old Agnes Gamble is working for undercover organisation SPEARS (the Society for the Protection of Endangered and Awesomely Rare Species), in Operation Sandwhiskers she has to travel to Egypt on a mission to save the hyrax pups who have been kidnapped. Agnes and her partner Attie encounter many challenges along the way and we loved following their journey through the desert.

Operation Sandwhiskers is a fast paced, thrilling read that keeps the reader interested from the start. There are lots of lively characters and different species throughout the story, keeping us engaged and on our toes with a plot twist regarding the identity of the kidnappers thrown in for good measure!

As with the other two Agents of the Wild books, the illustrations by Alice Lickens really help elevate the story and make it even more of a pleasure to read.

The end of the book features information about endangered species, which animals are in danger and what the reader can do to help. It really rounds off the story nicely as it spurs children into action to help such an important topic.
