Today we’d love to introduce you to The Absolutely Amazing Adventures of Ava Appelsawse written by Roy L. Pickering Jr and illustrated by his wife Erin Rogers Pickering. Inspired by their daughter, who is also called Ava, and the lack of diversity he noticed while reading classic children’s stories with her, Roy was determined to write the book he felt was missing which included a heroine of colour she could relate to.

We were graciously gifted with a digital copy of the book and Lily loved it so much she couldn’t wait to share her review of it.

The Absolutely Amazing Adventures of Ava Appelsawse is an absolutely amazing story about seven year old Ava Appelsawse and the doll castle her Father made from a stack of wood left by a neighbour (that Ava has her suspicions about).

Doll houses are fun to play with, but a doll castle? That’s on the next level. And to add to the awesomeness… IT’S  MAGIC!!!!

Ava soon finds out that if she crawls inside she can teleport to another world, one where she’s a princess and her fellow hamster, Goo-Goo-Woof-Meow, can SPEAK!!

But being a princess and ruler of a whimsical kingdom, as spectacular as it sounds, comes with responsibilities…

Can Ava save the poor, misunderstood Glerfling monster?

Read her lively adventures to see what happens, and remember ─ there’s never a dull moment when Ava’s around!

I really love the beautiful illustrations by Erin Rogers Pickering and the funny story. The pictures compliment the writing in every way. I also really like that Ava helps the monster no matter how scary and mean it may look; it shows that you should help anyone no matter what. Ava is such a caring, loving character who chooses family over everything, even the majestic life of being a princess.

The Amazing Adventures of Ava Appelsawse will be released on November 15th through Amazon.
