KICK is an absolutely brilliant story about a football obsessed Indonesian boy called Budi who dreams of becoming a footballer while he works as a child labourer stitching football boots.

My son and I read this Amnesty endorsed book together the first time he read it and I’m so glad we did. It gave us the opportunity to have many conversations about sweatshops, exploitative labour practices, the financial disparity between top flight footballers who wear these boots and the children in poverty who make them.

Lots to unpack but a great introduction to global issues in an overall uplifting story about dreaming big and not letting things stand in your way.
