OPIE JONES TALKS TO ANIMALS* is a laugh out loud, hilarious book by Nat Luurtsema with illustrations by Fay Austin. I’ve always wondered what animals are really thinking about and this book had all the answers!
Opie Jones is a dull, ordinary girl. She’s organised and sensible and someone you would never expect to be a mind reading superhero.
One day two strangers follow Opie home and she finds out that they are part of the Resistance, a team of secret mind reading superheroes. She is super excited when she is recruited to join then and finds out she can read minds too.
She is less excited to find out she can’t read human minds, just animal ones! This leads to lots of laughs especially from the fabulous and sometimes grumpy, Margot Von Catton!
When Opie finds out that an evil supervillain wants to take over her school and turn it into a warehouse with the students as workers, Opie must learn to control her powers and use them to save the school. Will she succeed and take down the nefarious people?
I loved Opie and the animal characters especially Margot Von Catton who is hilarious. I love it when she came up with a code name!
Opie Jones Talks to Animals is a very quick read because you simply can’t put it down! I hope there will be others in the series because I’m not ready to leave Opie behind just yet.

Official Synopsis
Dr Dolittle meets Kid Normal in a hilarious middle grade superhero series from comedian Nat Luurtsema. Perfect for fans of David Baddiel, Charlie Changes into a Chicken, My Brother is a Superhero and Lightning Girl
10-year-old Opie Jones is Very Ordinary. In fact nothing remarkable has ever happened to her, if you don’t count the cat that gives her funny looks from next door (which she doesn’t). So she is naturally very surprised when she is recruited to join The Resistance – a team of superheroes who can read minds, and have a dastardly brainwashing villain to defeat.
HOWEVER it turns out Opie can’t read human minds, she can read ANIMAL ones. The other members of the Resistance are very disappointed. And a whole world of animal chat and demands is opening up to her. She’s still a superhero, just one on her hands and knees in the mud, chatting to a pedantic worm.
But when the Resistance find themselves captured, it might just be that listening to all the creatures great and small is what makes Opie Jones the right person to save the world.
